MELL EXPO 2008

MELL(Media Expression, Learning and Literacy) Platz will hold the first symposium, MELL EXPO 2008, on April 26th and 27th.

The word EXPO stands for 'Exposition', and consists of five pavilions and a festival plaza. In the festival plaza, we will invite worldwide guests from U.K., Thailand, and Taiwan to discuss issues on media practice and literacy. The five pavilions, each with a theme, will invite groups and institutions related to the area. There will also be four informal talk sessions within the pavilions.

Every participant can enjoy the unique and bazaar-like style exhibitions and performances. Feel free to communicate with participants of various professions and backgrounds, and to exchange information with them!

Fee & Payment
2,000 yen by cash
It covers the whole participation for two days. No discount for partial participation. Welcome Party fee will be charged additionally.

Five Pavilions and Four Talk Sessions
Playful, bazaar-like exhibitions full of creative ideas and unique practices related to media literacy. Idea sharing and information exchange among variety of people and organizations. There will be also four informal talk sessions with eminent speakers.

1) Dialogue between Mass Media and Citizens: from "Mass Communication" to "Communications by Mass" Networking nation wide practices of media literacy, mainly conducted by broadcasting stations, newspaper companies and other mass media institutions.

2) Grass-roots Communication: Citizen, Alternative, and Community
Media practices for better community lives, communication and networks. From alternative activism to community oriented activities cooperated with universities.

3) School and Social Education: Media and Education
Nationwide educational trials of media literacy and information education in classrooms and in public institutions will be lined up.

4) Re-designing Culture and Communication: Tech, Pop, Edge !
Cutting-edge exhibitions related to "communication design", "technological vision", and "cross cultural act". You can also enjoy EXPO podcasting.

5) MELL KIOSK as a Resource and Communication Center
You can collect variety of information on exhibitors and guests of the EXPO, as well as other information related to media expression, learning and literacy. You are also welcome to leave your own materials.
